Above a £500 tax-free allowance, UK dividends are taxed at 10.75%, 35.75% or 39.35% depending on the income-tax band they fall into. The basic and higher dividend rates each rose by two percentage points on 6 April 2026 (Autumn Budget 2025) — basic 8.75% → 10.75%, higher 33.75% → 35.75%. The additional rate and the £500 allowance were unchanged. The calculator below applies those rates, the £500 allowance and the £12,570 personal allowance, and tapers the personal allowance for income above £100,000.

How the figure is worked out

Dividends are the top slice of your income. Your other income is taxed first and fills the tax bands; your dividends then stack on top, and the band they land in sets their rate. The first £500 is covered by the dividend allowance at 0%, though it still uses up band space. The UK dividend tax guide explains each step with worked examples.

Scottish taxpayers pay Scottish income tax rates on earned income, but dividends are taxed at the same UK-wide rates shown here. The calculator covers dividends held outside a tax shelter — dividends inside an ISA or pension are tax-free and need not be entered. For a page fixed to a specific tax year, see the current 2026/27 calculator, or previous years: 2025/26, 2024/25.
